Despite being only 27 years old, Margot Robbie has been acting for over a decade. In recent years, she has garnered critical acclaim for her acting chops. In her latest movie, I, Tonya, where she plays the shunned ice skater Tonya Harding, she is being praised for her precision and character breadth.
But it seems that despite loving acting, Robbie has other career ambitions on her mind. She really wants to direct. She’s experienced many highlights over the course of her career but directing and being a part of the narrative creation is something that she craves deeply.
She admits that she still loves acting and won’t give it up, but that she’s become even more inspired by the plethora of women directors and storytellers that have broken through tremendous odds to create purposeful and impressive work. Robbie has recently talked about how the #MeToo and #TimesUp movements have created a sisterhood amongst her acting peers that she hadn’t personally seen before.
One of the things that consistently gets commented on about Robbie is her stunning looks, she’s a complete knockout. But for this very reason, she recently has decided to take unconventional roles that don’t rely on looks or aren’t necessarily rooted in being a love interest or arm candy. Robbie did this consciously because she wanted to be challenged as an actress and those challenges have done well for her, as she’s becoming more and more respected and revered in the industry as someone with real acting chops.
Robbie has gotten used to others making a fuss about her looks but she downplays it whenever she can. She doesn’t find anything wrong with being sexy or beautiful but won’t find a reason or excuse to draw attention to it. She’s recently admitted to liking to dress up as men for Halloween, she finds character costumes so much more interesting than dressing provocatively on that night of the year.
It appears this highly talented woman knows how to dig deep, far beyond the superficial leanings that some would so easily expect from someone who looks like her. Whether in front of the camera or behind it, there’s no doubt Robbie shines.
