According to multiple reports, a man shot himself while standing in front of the White House. Officials from the United States Secret Service confirmed the news to CBS News.
The SS took to Twitter to update the general public on the incident; they explained that a person suffered a “self-inflicted” gunshot wound near the North end of the White House.
As for if anyone else was injured, the Secret Service claimed there are no other individuals involved or hurt. At the moment, the man is currently seeking care from medical professionals and has not passed away.
In a report from CBS News, the SS claimed they heard shots being fired and rushed out to the fence to find out what happened. It isn’t clear if the action was politically motivated.

According to Hogan Gidley, Trump and Melania are staying in West Palm Beach and have been briefed on the incident. Gidley said to CNN that they are “aware of the incident.”
He referred the reporters to the Secret Service for additional details. As you may know, the presidency of Donald Trump has been the subject of considerable contention since he was elected back in 2016 during the presidential election between himself and Hillary Clinton.
However, as it was noted earlier in the article, the reason for the man shooting himself is not clear at the moment.
With that said, some on social media have used the opportunity as a way to criticize the president, stating that his policies and general disposition could have contributed to a toxic “environment.” Other people, in his defense, argued that incidents such as these occur all of the time regardless of who’s in the White House.
