Tom Arnold’s case against Mark Burnett has been dropped by the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office according to People Magazine. A spokesperson said to the publication that they didn’t have enough evidence to file charges against him, and so the legal proceedings never came to fruition.
Formerly, the 59-year-old Trump Tapes star said to the LAPD that the 58-year-old producer for The Apprentice, Mark, choked him while at the MGM Worldwide Television pre-Emmys event.
For several months beforehand, Tom had spent a considerable amount of energy bashing Mark on social media, accusing him of withholding evidence of Trump saying the “N-word” while on the set of The Apprentice.
Arnold has been working on a series for Viceland, The Hunt For The Trump Tapes, a program that is on a mission to discover the recording which would ultimately see Trump impeached from public office.
When Arnold spoke with Mario Lopez from Extra near the beginning of the month, Arnold said he was trying to avoid Burnett because of the whole debacle.
Tom said he “didn’t say a word,” and Mark “started choking” him. The star claims that Burnett grabbed him by the esophagus. Burnett never spoke on the matter, but his wife, Roma Downey, uploaded an image of a bruise on her wrist on Twitter.
Downey said on Twitter, “is your TV show worth it Tom? Please stop.” Arnold fired back with a threat of civil litigation, but clearly, the suit never came to fruition. While many viewers have enjoyed Arnold’s new show, some on social media accused Tom of merely capitalizing on the current political climate.
One person wrote, “Clearly, the show isn’t worth watching, because if he actually had something on Trump worth talking about, the Democrats and the media establishment would pick up on it, and use the evidence to impeach Trump. But none of that has happened, so there’s no point in even tuning in.”
Regardless, The Hunt For The Trump Tapes has been a great way for Tom to get his name back into the spotlight. Previously, he did so by talking badly about his former partner, Roseanne Barr, for her racially motivated tweets.
