The singer’s mother is simply outraged by the unfair treatment her daughter faced. Lorde’s mom took to social media to slam the Grammys after Lorde was snubbed from the performance list.
Apparently, out of all the people nominated for Album of the Year, she is the only one not asked for a solo performance during the prestigious music awards show.
What makes this whole thing even more controversial is the fact that she is also the only female nominated in that category.
Sonja Yelich tweeted a pic of a paragraph in a New York Times article that she had previously circled with a pen.
The said article was about sexism in the music industry.
‘Of the 899 people nominated in the last six Grammy Awards, the report found, 9% were women. (This year, Lorde’s the only woman nominated for album of the year; she’s not scheduled to perform)’ the excerpt read.
‘This says it all,’ the upset mother captioned the post.

Sources close to the artist claim that Lorde was only asked to perform alongside other artists but not solo.
And while Lorde was approached for a Tom Petty tribute that she reportedly refused, all of the other nominees were given the opportunity to perform solos from their own albums.
There is no secret that sexism in Hollywood has always been an issue.
On January 7, Greta Gerwig‘s critically-acclaimed film Lady Bird was awarded a Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture — Musical or Comedy but was not nominated in the Best Director category.
When Natalie Portman announced the winner, she started with: ‘And here are the all-male nominees,’ slamming the lack of female representation.
But while Lorde is not set to perform, maybe she’ll be recognized for her talent and hard work by going home with the award for Album of the Year! Fingers crossed!
