According to new reports, the beloved grandmother of Lin-Manuel Miranda has passed away on Christmas day! The woman played a huge role in his life and even influenced his highly-acclaimed work on In the Heights.
Miranda took to social media to share with his many fans the heartbreaking news and to write a touching message about the way her passing made him feel.
‘Abuela Mundi passed away on Christmas morning. I may have more words in the days to come but for now my heart’s in pieces, and that is where it is going to be for a bit,’ Miranda wrote alongside a few black and white pics of the woman with whom he was so close.
In the said photos, the grandmother was in the hospital.

In an essay he had previously written for Broadway.com, the creator of Hamilton opened up about his Abuela, saying: ‘She took care of my dad when he was a kid in Vega Alta, Puerto Rico. His parents never stopped working, and when I was born, she came to take care of my sister and me.’
During his childhood years in Washington Heights, the woman was the one taking care of him, and it inspired his show In The Heights.
‘The payoff for me will be in January when my Abuela Mundi comes to see the show for the first time.’ Miranda went on.
Thankfully, Abuela Mundi lived to see the show as well as Hamilton!
Our prayers go out to Lin-Manuel and the rest of his family during this painful time.
