Tyrion’s reaction to Jon Snow having sex with Daenerys at the end of Season 7 puzzled a lot of Game of Thrones fans. The scene sparked a number of different theories, but a leaked script may explain why Tyrion was behaving so oddly.
Peter Dinklage, who plays Tyrion on the show, recently opened up about why his character took a weird interest in Jon and Daenerys’ love life.
The actor explained how Tyrion often mixes the personal and professional — much to his disappointment. He then hinted that Tyrion was probably a little jealous because he loves Daenerys. He also has feelings for Jon, whom he considers is a lot like himself. After all, they both come from families who rejected them from birth.

Beyond that, Dinklage’s explanation was a little unclear. Luckily, a script from Season 6 sheds a little more light on the situation.
According to Esquire, the script describes the scene where Daenerys is departing Meereen and gives some context to Tyrion’s behavior in Season 7.
“He studies her face. [. . .] Dany is staring into the distance, so Tyrion is able to watch her from up close. Goddamn but she is beautiful. [. . .] He watches her for a beat too long and turns away,” the script reads.
The quote makes it clear that Tyrion is in love with Daenerys, which explains why he looked so conflicted when she hooked up with Jon. Tyrion may be thinking politically as well, but it is clear that jealousy is also mixed in.

If Tyrion truly is jealous of Jon, then it could give him reason to betray the couple next season. This would align with several fan theories, though watching Tyrion give up the person he loves seems unlikely.
Either way, Tyrion’s feelings for Daenerys could make things a bit complicated in Season 8, especially with everyone fighting for their lives against the White Walkers. Exactly how that plays out, of course, is yet to be seen.
Season 8 of Game of Thrones is scheduled to premiere sometime in April of next year.
