Every single year, when the Super Bowl comes around, people tune in not only for the game but also for the many ads! That being said, we have learned that one commercial, in particular, outraged the audience!
One 30 seconds long spot was bought by The Church of Scientology and as you can only imagine, the ad trying to get people to learn more about the controversial religion was not at all well received.
Actress Leah Remini, who is the most known activist against the cult, took to social media to write: ‘Yet again, Scientology spends millions of dollars to buy #SuperBowl ads. Scientology continues to behave as a profit making company rather than a tax-exempt religion. #NotCurious.’
But even though the star is the loudest voice against it, a lot more social media users were just as outraged and made sure to tweet about it.
‘The entire bar actively booed the Scientology ad,’ one post read alongside a meme of Meryl Streep in the comedy Death Becomes Her, where the character says: ‘These are the moments that make life worth living.’
Another posted a gif that showed a woman hurrying out of a building, captioning it: ‘A Scientology ad?!!’
Yet another tweet read: ‘I knew the Super Bowl would be boring but I wasn’t expecting SCARY.’
Check out the ad here and tell us what you think!
Just like Remini, some viewers noted how The Church spent millions to get their ad at the Super Bowl even though they are supposed to be a non-profit.
‘WHOA…. @Scientology took all of the money they scammed from poor, vulnerable people and spent it on a Super Bowl ad to try to convince people they are totally normal. What a way to spend your tithes.’
