Law & Order: SVU will create an episode detailing the crimes and circumstances around the Harvey Weinstein scandal. The legendary NBC show will tackle the recent allegations against the disgraced producer for an episode which will make its way to the air in 2018.
The executive producer of the series, Michael Chernuchin, stated to Us Weekly today that they are “hitting Harvey Weinstein head-on, but it’s not in the realm of the entertainment business.”
He stated that it’s an essential part of the series which will deal with the “rape culture” inherent in the industry. Michael added they wanted to “stretch the law to criminalize that sort of environment.”
How incredibly honored I was to stand alongside @JessSeinfeld, who does so much good in the world as founder of @GOODPlusFdn to celebrate and admire and applaud the remarkable world-changers, my old friend Scarlett James and my new friend Amaya Scheer. The theme of the evening was #CharacterCounts, and Scarlett and Amaya are indeed shining examples of what strong, inspired, visionary character looks like in a young person. Or any person, for that matter. Ten-year-old Scarlett started the @the_ScarlettFund after her two-year battle with a rare form of lymphoma starting at the age of six, and thirteen-year-old Amaya started @comfortcases to provide essentials—and comfort—to kids entering foster care. I had the opportunity to share some thoughts about what it means to have character: do the right thing, the brave thing, the good thing, even (especially) when no one’s looking; be yourself, and deeply true to yourself; and do it all in community, because everything is better when we work together. But I think Scarlett and Amaya have a thing or two to teach about character. In fact, they model it. Deep thanks to @americangirlbrand.
As you may already know, The New York Times published a litany of allegations against the controversial Weinstein Company executive last month.
Since then, a cascade of accusations against many men in the entertainment business has hit the mainstream media. Most recently, Melissa Schuman – a former member of the 2000’s group, Dream – alleged that Nick Carter raped her fifteen years ago.
The Backstreet Boy vehemently denied the allegations and believed their interaction was consensual. However, perhaps the most deleterious scandal involves the actions of Harvey Weinstein.
Women such as Rose McGowan, Daryl Hannah, Gwyneth Paltrow, Angelina Jolie, Paz De La Huerta, and many others accused the producer of predatory sexual behavior.
As a result of his alleged actions, executives at The Weinstein Company fired the producer, and he was expelled by the Television Academy on the 6th of November.
Police are currently investigating Harvey in cities like New York City, Los Angeles, and London. Georgina Chapman – Harvey’s ex-wife – left him after nearly ten years of marriage. The outpouring of support for women to come out with their stories of harassment and abuse has been tremendous, with Twitter movements such as “#MeToo” trending on the media platform.
