During an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Lauren Cohan, also known as Maggie on The Walking Dead, revealed she would be returning for the ninth season of the immensely popular series. While at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, she explained that there was a lot “more Maggie story to tell.”
As you may know, fans have been anticipating her exit from the zombie production after she took up an offer to lead alongside Scott Foley in ABC’s action series, Whiskey Cavalier.
Lauren made her debut in the apocalyptic classic during the second season and her contract expired at the end of the eighth. The star was supposedly holding out on re-signing because she wanted to make more money.
Her co-star, Khary Payton, uploaded an Instagram photo of her and captioned it with the statement, “pay the woman.” As you may know, the issue of pay discrepancy between men and women has been a hot-button issue in the past.
Some fans have been speculating that Lauren fought with executives to get a pay raise at the same level to some of her male co-stars.
In case you haven’t watched the latest episodes of The Walking Dead, we’ll refrain from explaining what went down in the last episode, but it was an action-packed finale, that much is for sure.
And while the show has had an immensely good run, some people are beginning to tire of the show, complaining of cheesy writing, a lack of a cohesive plot, and overly dramatic speeches and scenes.
Either way, The Walking Dead has garnered a very dedicated fan base who regularly tune in to AMC to watch it. If it continues to reel in viewers, we can continue to see new episodes produced. As for if Lauren Cohan will remain a mainstay, remains to be seen. Some other characters to exit the show include Rick’s son, Carl.
