Lady Gaga stirred up an emotional storm at Elle Magazine’s 25th annual Women in Hollywood celebration while at the Beverly Hills hotel, Four Seasons. The 32-year-old sported a huge beige Marc Jacobs suit, and normally, the outfit alone would be enough to create controversy.
However, the “Pokerface” singer took it a step further by delivering a heartfelt speech on her experiences with sexual assault, which she endured at the young age of 19.
Lady Gaga, who recently made her debut as an actress in the Bradley Cooper-directed film, A Star Is Born, made her way up to the stage and delivered a 25-minute long speech.
The singer spoke about sexual assault, chronic pain, mental illness, as well as her fiancé to which she just got engaged. While her speech was truly extraordinary, fashion was on the minds of a lot of people. One person wrote on social media, “her message is powerful, but did she really have to wear that suit?”
Lady Gaga spoke on her choice of attire that evening, stating that she tried on every combination imaginable until she then asked herself, “what does it mean to be a woman in Hollywood?”
Some of the girls in the audience included Charlize Theron, Shonda Rhimes, Mia Farrow, Sarah Paulson, Yara Shahidi, Keira Knightley, Angela Bassett, and more.
Germonatta explained that she and the rest of the women in the entertainment world are not merely images to entertain the rest of the population.
“We are voices,” the singer added and described the way in which women feel they fight with one another for the entertainment of others. Lady Gaga said she and the rest of women everywhere have the right to fight back against those who try and silence them.
