Kris Humphries Announces Retirement And Talks About ‘Embarrassing’ Marriage To Kim Kardashian
Kim Kardashian and her 72-day marriage was one of the many things that made her a household name. It’s been years since the divorce became final but Kris Humphries wants to make one thing clear — he was in it for the long haul.
Because the couple made millions for the ‘KUWK’ TV special, it was believed that Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries concocted the nuptials for a huge payday and more fame than they already possessed.
Both Kim and Kris have denied it in interviews in the past, but the NBA baller addressed it in an open letter that announced his retirement on March 26.
In an essay for The Players’ Tribune titled ‘I Never Wanted to Be That Guy,’ Humphries explains: “I was definitely naive about how much my life was going to change. But the one thing that really bothers me is whenever people say that my marriage was fake. It’s never easy to go through the embarrassment of something like that — with your friends, with your family…. But when it plays out so publicly, in front of the world, it’s a whole other level. It was brutal.”
He went on to say how deeply he was affected by the public scrutiny of his failed marriage.
“There was about a year where I was in a dark place. I didn’t want to leave my home. You feel like … I don’t know … the whole world hates you, but they don’t even know why. They don’t even know you at all. They just recognize your face, and they’re on you.”
The baller even confessed that he used to pretend that he was Blake Griffin in order to be left alone.
Kris played in the NBA for around 14 years and now that his professional career is over — he has been focusing on multiple business ventures.
