During one of the new episodes of American Idol, Katy Perry revealed that she didn’t make life easy for her parents, Keith Hudson, and Mary Perry. While talking about their families during the live taping on Sunday, Katy, Lionel, and Luke, all admitted their parents were their very first fans.
The 33-year-old singer said, “I put my parents through hell and back and back!” Despite her relatively religious and conservative upbringing, Katy said her mom and dad were always supportive, even though she had a song called, “I Kissed A Girl.”
When she was a young kid, Mary Perry was very supportive of the “California Gurls” singer. It must run in the family because Perry revealed some of her nieces sing themselves to sleep before nap time, something that Mary Perry said her daughter did as well. Mary even started to call her “Bird,” like the hummingbird.
During the airing of the show, Katy shared a picture on Instagram of her mother when she was pregnant with the pop singer. She wrote, “I hope you’re tuning in and snuggling with your mama!”
According to new reports, Katy Perry signed on to the second season for the American Idol reboot, and in a social media post, the superstar said it will be even better this time around.
And when it comes to Perry’s family, sources close to the star said to us, “Katy and her mom and dad have had a good relationship for a long time, even though her career choices have been at odds with her family’s values at times.”
“Part of growing up though is finding your own voice, and realizing that your own viewpoints and ways of being are something to be acquired through experience.”
“Her parents understand that she has to be herself. And that’s what she has done, obviously, and in a massive way.”
