Katie Couric recently opened up about the firing of Matt Lauer. When a fan commented on her Instagram account, Katie talked about the allegations against him. Katie wrote on her Instagram that it was “incredibly upsetting” and she will say something when she’s ready.
As you may know, Katie worked with Matt Lauer on the Today Show from 1991 until 2016, which means they worked together for fifteen years.
Back in January of this year, Katie returned to the Today Show to celebrate Lauer’s 20th Anniversary as an anchor on the famous talk show.
It’s old news now that Lauer lost his job working for the Today Show following allegations of sexual harassment. The report hit the press on the 29th of November, and executives forced Matt out not long after.
Variety was the news organization to release a two-month long investigation which detailed many allegations of harassment against Lauer. In response to the accusations, Matt said there were no words to express his regret and pain due to his actions.
And while he said he was genuinely sorry for the pain caused, some of the allegations were distortions of the truth. However, Lauer admitted that enough of it was correct for him to feel deeply embarrassed and humiliated.
Lauer was recently spotted without his wedding ring as well, prompting rumors that he and his wife split. Matt isn’t the only journalist and host to lose his job.
Mark Halperin, as well as Charlie Rose, lost their positions as well due to similar claims. Other men in the entertainment industry suffered similar fates including Kevin Spacey, Louis CK, Jeremy Piven, and others.
