Kathy Griffin is scared of nothing, not even of the fear-inducing Church of Scientology. She doesn’t even fear what might happen when revealing other people’s secrets, people involved with Scientology.
In her latest book “Kathy Griffin’s Celebrity Run-Ins: My A-Z Index,” the 56 year old comedian made public longtime Scientology follower Kirstie Alley’s secrets without even thinking twice.
According to Griffin, the two were hanging out backstage at the Today Show one day, when Kathy noticed that the actress’s iPhone had a “big spider web of cracks.” When she saw this she felt compelled to comment on it:
“My God, you’re Kirstie Alley. You can afford to have one of your assistants or Martians from your religion get you a new iPhone before Matt Lauer sees it,” Griffin claims she cracked. “Because guess what the sign of crazy is? A CRACKED IPHONE.”
After saying that, the comedian noticed that Alley’s phone displayed the weather app, which was set to show the temperature in Clearwater, Florida, the headquarters for the Church of Scientology.
“Not the weather where she lives, mind you, but where her nutty religion operates,” she commented Griffin in her book.
Bravely and ironically, she went on by jokingly asking if she had to “clean toilets for a month” if she doesn’t know Clearwater’s weather at all times.
Allegedly, despite giving Griffin an “exasperated look” with a “slight sigh of despair” Alley seemed to calm down quickly and take the diss. Griffin thinks that the 65 year old actress felt like she had bigger issues to worry about by only being involved with Scientology, that her playful jabs did not affect Alley much at all.
“She just guffaws along with it now. When you’re in a cult that makes you do manual labor for a week or whatever to atone, what Kathy Griffin has to say is seriously not your biggest issue.”
