Kathy Griffin has decided to expose everyone without restraint, no matter how big they are in Hollywood.
In her new book, “Kathy Griffin’s Celebrity Run-Ins: My A-Z Index,” the brave comedian writes among other things, about her awkward encounter at an elite dinner party with a “very drunk” Jon Hamm.
The Mad Men actor, who was freshly single at the time, was invited along with starts like Jack Nicholson and Griffin herself at talent manager Sue Menger’s house for a fancy dinner party.
Allegedly, he got drunk really soon in the evening.
“He proceeded to get very drunk during the coffee table portion, and then when it came for dinner, Sue had sat him next to me,” she says.
During a conversation with Nicholson, Hamm interrupted with “boozy yammering.”
“First it was, ‘You know your Emmy isn’t a real Emmy,’” he slurred. “I let that one go, but then he whispered, ‘You’re so o-o-o-old.’”
Griffin doesn’t let such petty insults affect her and so she wittily responded: “You can’t keep up. You’re outclassed. Now zip it; Jack’s talking!”
She was not insulted by his unsalted comments but rather annoyed by his “horrible timing”, deciding to cause such an embarrassing scene during her conversation with Jack Nicholson.
However, it looks like this was not the sole incident which started their feud. Jon Hamm became her “nemesis” long before he was in Mad Men.
“He’s one of these hot guys who’s mildly funny but actually thinks he’s comedian level funny. You know the type — there’s probably one in your office or family. He just reeks of that. It’s an entitled air. When Hammy wants to be funny, he’s, well, not.”
Fortunately, Hamm was able to become sober after completing his show in 2015, but Griffin thinks, the way he acts is not entirely the result of alcohol.
“Hopefully done with the drunk, but probably still Don Draper-y.”
