The 64-year-old Today anchor is mourning the loss of her 87-year-old mother, Joan Epstein. Kathie Lee Gifford took to social media to confirm the sad news.
‘My precious mother, JOANNIE went home to JESUS and my DADDY this morning. We praise God for His promise of eternal life, and we thank God for her,’ Gifford tweeted.
Joan passed away two years after Kathie Lee’s husband died as well, back in August of 2015.
Aaron Epstein, her father, passed away in 2002.
As fans of Gifford may be aware, Epstein has made various appearances alongside her daughter on TV.
Hoda Kotb, Gifford’s Today co-host also took to social media to share a cute picture featuring the two of them with their mothers and shared her condolences.
About her late mom, Gifford said she was the ‘sunniest’ person she has ever know, perhaps except Hoda, ‘because who is happier than Hoda?’
She also opened up about how much her mother meant to her and how much she supported her in achieving her dreams.
She was only 17 years old when she left home to pursue her career, and both of her parents were all for it.
They wanted Kathie Lee to follow her passion, and that is the same parenting style she used with her own kids.
According to the anchor, she’d call Epstein at 9 A.M. every single morning before going on air.
Rest in Peace, Joan Epstein.
