Katherine Langford who plays the titular character Hannah Baker in the original Netflix series 13 Reasons Why has been nominated for a Golden Globe and not everyone is thrilled. While the Australian actress has received praise for her work across the globe, there are many who feel that there were other actresses who deserved the nomination more. Though 13 Reasons Why became a huge success, it also drew extreme controversy as the first season not only discussed suicide but showed Katherine Langford act out a graphic suicide scene.
Some of the remarks surrounding Katherine Langford’s nomination aren’t limited to the suicide scene, but rather some simply feel her acting wasn’t on par with some of the women who were overlooked. Special notice was given to Game of Thrones Emilia Clarke and Mandy Moore from This is Us.
The official 13 Reasons Why Twitter account was one of the first to share the news online and offer Katherine Langford their congratulations.
"My sincere hope is that the recognition continues to shine a light on so many of the important life issues and struggles we portray." Congrats to Katherine Langford on her @goldenglobes nomination for #13ReasonsWhy. ? https://t.co/zIacekRBji

One of the most popular responses to Langford’s nomination was that it was well deserved as well as a surprise.
Some fans of the show stated they never thought the show would be nominated due to the controversial, graphic suicide scene.
Co-star Christian Navarro, who portrayed Tony Padilla, sent out a tweet expressing his congratulations and stated he was proud to be on the show. The tweet was included in Netflix’s celebratory message.

Many congrats to Katherine Langford on her Golden Globe nom for 13 Reasons Why. Hannah is such an important character, and not an easy part to portray by any means. So deserved. ? pic.twitter.com/0ufl8LytMF

Not everyone was thrilled about the nomination and some people didn’t hold back with their disapproving comments. One woman laughed at the idea of Katherine Langford being nominated while Viola Davis and Mandy Moore were not.

It’s often said that it is just an honor to be nominated and Katerine Langford is in great company with her fellow actors. She is competing against Outlander star Caitriona Balfe, Claire Foy from The Crown Maggie Gyllenhaal who starred in The Deuce, and Elisabeth Moss for The Handmaid’s Tale
