Duchess Kate’s uncle, Gary Goldsmith, received a sentence on Tuesday, November 28th, after he admitted to hitting his wife, Julie-Ann Goldsmith, according to a report from Reuters. The court slapped Gary with a 12-month community-service order and he must go to 20 anger management and rehabilitation sessions.
He also had to pay a fine of $6,650. Reuters reported that the judge – during his sentencing – said Gary acted like a “nasty drunk” when he punched his wife and knocked her out when outside their London home on the 13th of October.
Additionally, The Mirror stated the judge criticized Gary’s lack of “self-control” when he smacked his wife with a “single blow, but a hard one.”
Today The Duchess of Cambridge visited the Foundling Museum in London to find out more about the Museum's history. The Museum explores the history of the Foundling Hospital, the UK’s first children’s charity and first public art gallery. The Duchess learned about how the Museum aims to give young people new skills, an understanding of history and a space in which their voices are heard. Her Royal Highness also had a chance to take part in arts and crafts activities with local nursery children. 📷 – PA
However, according to reports, Julie-Ann slapped Gary in the face repeatedly while they argued, prompting Gary to strike her back which caused her to hit the ground head first on the pavement.
A taxi driver witnessed the altercation. Emma Arbuthnot – the judge who served over the case – said Gary was not “immediately remorseful at what” he had done despite his wife’s condition. As you may know, Gary admitted to an assault during the 14th of November hearing and has since been on bail.
The contrast between Gary and Kate is self-evident. Gary attended the 2011 wedding of his cousin, Kate, 35, along with her now-husband, Prince William, but he was having better days at the time.
Pippa Middleton and James Matthews got married this past May as well. Despite this hiccup in the Royal Family’s reputation, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry recently announced they would marry sometime in the year of 2018.
Celebrity Insider reported earlier this week that Meghan packed her bags in Toronto and left for London, England. Just yesterday, Markle announced her retirement from acting as well, and some have speculated she is looking to embark on a career in philanthropy or politics. Meghan studied International Relations in University, which is a sub-category of Political Science.
