Just because Kate Middleton is on maternity leave does mean she has stopped working. The Duchess of Cambridge had her third kid, Prince Louis, in April and recently took a break from her maternity leave to attend the retirement of a longtime secretary for the royal family, Miguel Head.
Head has been a private secretary for Prince William for over a decade and recently announced his retirement. Although Middleton is currently on leave, she surprised Head by showing up at a secret meeting between him and William. Head relinquished his position at the meeting and Middleton was there to bid him farewell.
The appearance was one of three occasions when Middleton has interrupted her leave to attend official royal business. The Duchess of Cambridge appeared at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding and the Trooping the Colour event earlier this year.
According to Elle, the royal family has already filled the secretary position for Prince William. Simon Case, a civil servant, will be taking over duties as William’s private secretary.
The fact that Middleton was present for Head’s retirement, meanwhile, is a clear sign that she is almost ready for the end of her maternity leave, which is usually around 6 months. Middleton will hit that mark in October.
“It is traditional for new royal mums to take a six-month break from official engagements,” Duncan Larcombe, a royal biographer, explained.
While Middleton is on maternity leave, she is still hard at work raising her three kids. Speaking of the kiddos, inside sources say that all three of Middleton’s children are growing up just fine. So far, Prince George is the shyest out of the bunch while Princess Charlotte is easily the most energetic. She also helps her mom and dad whenever they host parties and is not afraid to jump up and greet guests.
Kate Middleton is reportedly set to launch her first solo initiative aimed at helping disadvantaged children throughout the United Kingdom.
