There are no official rules about what the Royals wear, but the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, has a specific preference when it comes to her wardrobe, and the clothes of Princess Charlotte, Prince George, and Prince Louis. Middleton aims her choice of outfits for herself and her family at looking “timeless” in official photos, and that means none of them will wear an item that is a staple in Meghan Markle’s closet — pants.
According to OK! Magazine, Princess Charlotte will always wear dresses with tights or cute socks, and Prince George will always be in shorts (at least for now), and fans will never see Charlotte in casual trousers or leggings.

Rachel Riley — a childrenswear designer who has dressed Prince George — says her theory is that Middleton wants her kids to always have a classic look.
“The reason why I design clothes that way is because if they wear very simple things, it’s about the child, and it’s timeless in that you can’t really date a specific photo or put them in something that seems out of date,” says Riley.
When Charlotte wears traditional outfits for official occasions, it helps marks the formality of the event she is attending. However, when it comes to what they wear day-to-day, each child does have their own separate outfits for family time that are not meant for the public to see.
As for Markle, she apparently wanted to wear tuxedo pants to a fancy event during her upcoming visit to Australia, but her husband wasn’t thrilled about the idea. Last weekend The Daily Mail reported that the Duchess of Sussex ordered a range of designer suits, including a tuxedo, to wear, during her and Harry’s trip in October for the Invictus Games, but he vetoed the choice.
In particular, she had chosen a Stella McCartney tuxedo suit as part of her wardrobe for their visit that will include a tour of the country, but insiders say that Harry has told her it wasn’t traditional enough, and she needs to stop “dressing like a Hollywood star and start dressing like a royal.”
It isn’t clear how much truth there is to this report, but it also claimed that royal aides are barely tolerating Meghan’s style, and they prefer that she stick to a more traditional look of demure skirts and opaque tights.
The new Duchess has already worn pants to different engagements, and she seems to have an affinity for a masculine look on occasion. And considering that someone reportedly told Middleton years ago that she needed to wear longer dresses, it isn’t completely out of the question that maybe the same person stepped in and attempted to guide Markle’s fashion choices.
But would Harry get involved? He has appeared to be quite supportive of his wife and has had his own rebellious streak. But whether or not he feels his wife needs to behave more “like a royal,” that’s something we will most likely never know. However, what Markle wears during her Australia trip might give fans a little hint.
There is one thing we know for sure, not matter what Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle wear or do not wear, it will always make headlines.
