Earlier this summer, model turned actress, Karrueche Tran filed a restraining order against ex Chris Brown. This came after Brown had reportedly been trying to win Tran back with specific gestures she wasn’t receptive to.
Recently, when she made an appearance on The Wendy Williams Show, she opened up about why she took such measures and the importance of women’s safety in bad situations. Tran and Brown got together almost two years after the very public incident of Brown assaulting former girlfriend Rihanna.
Tran explained how she met Brown and how their relationship revolved from work-related and strictly business to something more serious and long term. Tran has previously opened up about how Brown was still seeing Rihanna when they were dating and how that hurt her tremendously. Though Tran and Brown called it quits in 2014, he’d been trying to prove himself to her and win her back since then.
However, due to the specific behavior exhibited, Tran did not feel comfortable with him having access to her. He reportedly threatened her, showed up at friend’s houses and even verbally degraded her on a number of occasions. During the early part of 2017, a temporary restraining order against Brown was granted while a permanent one that lasts 5 years was approved in June.
“It came to a point where I felt like I needed to protect my safety,” explained Tran to Williams. While Williams did attempt to pry for more details, Tran wasn’t too forthcoming of the gory bits of her past interactions with Brown.
Tran did say that they haven’t talked or been in contact since the restraining orders have been in effect. Tran explained that she’s really focusing on herself and her career right now and love is the least of her concerns.
As a part of the new hit show, Claws, she’s receiving a lot of acclaim and praise for her character Virgina. She’s pleased with the way that the show has been received and wants to focus on channeling that momentum in positive and healthy ways.
