Ray West, the father of the legendary rapper, Kanye West, was diagnosed with prostate cancer. According to a report from TMZ.com, Ray was told that he was suffering from the disease, rather than stomach cancer, as it was previously stated.
Once Kanye discovered his dad’s state, he apparently “dropped everything” to be at his side. At the moment, Ray is in the hospital in Los Angeles, and sources explained that he is doing well.
One insider explained, “Kanye’s father is going to be ok for now. The cancer is in its early stages so he has a long time to live, and Kanye has access to the best doctors, so they’re not that worried right now. Either way, it was a big scare for everyone in the family.”
As fans of the rapper know, the cancer diagnosis comes after the death of Kanye’s mother ten years ago. Kanye supposedly had a mental breakdown, not only for the kidnapping of his wife, Kim Kardashian, while in Paris, but also due to his mother’s untimely passing.
Previously, Kanye asked his fans on social media if he should use a photo of the plastic surgeon who operated on her for his album cover. The rapper later rescinded that idea.
TMZ reports that the last time Kanye and Ray were spotted together was in Nobu, Malibu, in March of this year. It was a rare occurrence, as they are rarely out in public as a pair.
Not much is known about Ray and Donda’s relationship, other than Donda’s career as a college professor. As for their relationship, the couple got divorced when the rapper was a young child, but they were able to keep their relationship friendly as time went on.
This all comes after the release of Kanye’s latest album, Ye, which followed his controversial media firestorm where he supported Donald Trump, among other interesting marketing tactics.
