Kanye West and Solange have both taken a step back from the spotlight lately. But now, the latest reports are saying that these two artists have found themselves tangled in a messy lawsuit.
They are being sued for copyright infringement according to TMZ. The online publication claims that the soul artist known as Prince Phillip Mitchell is accusing both singers of having extensively used his ballad called If We Can’t Be Lovers without having his own approval.
If you check out Kanye’s discography, you will see that the rapper has initially sampled this track on Everything I Am off his third studio album called Graduation.
Solange herself sampled ‘Everything I Am’ for the deep cut ‘ F**k The Industry’.
This resurfaced after the re-issue of 2008’s Sol-Angel. Mitchell is credited as a co-writer on both tracks.
It seems that this was not at all enough for him and now he is explicitly requesting that both Solange and Kanye stop performing their tracks and pull them from the radio as well.
It seems that he is not aware of the fact that neither one of these two songs is a single or a massive hit in these singers’ repertoires.
Considering all the data that is available until now, it’s not sure whether Mitchell even has a case. We’ll have to wait and see what happens next.
