It has been over seven months since Justin Theroux and Jennifer Aniston announced they were divorcing after two years of marriage, and The Leftovers star has finally opened up about the split. In a recent interview with The New York Times, Theroux said the breakup was gentle, and there was no animosity.
“The good news is that was probably the most — I’m choosing my words really carefully — it was kind of the most gentle separation, in that there was no animosity,” said Theroux. “In a weird way, just sort of navigating the inevitable perception of it is the exhausting part.”
When it comes to why they split, Theroux gave a bit of insight by explaining that there are small events that took place, but “everything can feel like 10 on the Richter scale if you make the headline big enough and salacious enough.”

The 47-year-old revealed that he was adjusting well and that Hollywood breakups are different because of what he called a “kind of carny lifestyle,” meaning that their scenery frequently changes, and they often attach and detach from projects. He says it is not the same as a split between an ordinary couple, where you have to “tear a baby in half.”
Theroux added that neither one of them is dead, neither one is throwing hatchets at each other, and it is boring and amicable. He says that they respected each other enough that it was “as painless as it could be.”
The actor did admit that it was heartbreaking in the sense that their friendship wouldn’t be the same, but it is shifting and changing, and that is something that both he and Aniston are proud of.
According to Us Weekly, Theroux also hinted that he could be dating again when he responded to a question about his love life by asking if this is the part of the interview where he should “coyly raise an eyebrow and not answer the question.”
Last month, Jennifer Aniston revealed in an interview that she was not heartbroken after the split, and people had reckless assumptions about her not being able to keep a man, or that she is committed to her career and refuses to have a baby.

The Friends star said that no one knows what happens behind closed doors, and no one thinks about how sensitive that could be for her and her partner. She added that they also don’t know what she has been through medically or emotionally.
As for Theroux — who is currently appearing in the Netflix series Maniac with Emma Stone and Jonah Hill — he is keeping things in perspective thanks to his friend, Jason Bateman. He told Justin Theroux not to pay attention to the media because they portray another character. And that person is insane. So, if you follow or pay attention to that person, it will make you insane too.
So, he learned early on to not participate or dwell on the media coverage.
