Justin Baldoni revealed that he had been sexually harassed several times throughout his career. After the actor spoke at the TEDWomen conference in New Orleans in November, the 33-year-old star of Jane The Virgin said to Glamour Magazine that both men and women had harassed him.
Justin revealed when he was 21-years-old and “very new in the business,” he had just finished his first show and his girlfriend bought him a spa certificate to go to Burke Williams in Hollywood.
He went there, and it was filled with “fancier people;” men who had money. A man saw him and sat in the hot tub with Justin before asking him about his vocation. In response, Justin said he was an actor and the man revealed he was a producer.
According to Baldoni, the producer name-dropped several different people like George Clooney, Don Cheadle, and others and tried to convince him to take off his pants.
TAG a man in your life. Someone who you feel represents what it means to not just a be good man but a good human. Let’s finally lift each other up and call out all the good men as well. ???????????????????????????????? Men, it’s time we start questioning the scripts that we’ve been given and the roles that we THINK we need to play as men in the world. I realized recently that I’ve spent the majority of my life pretending to be a man that I’m not, pretending to be strong when I felt weak, confident when I felt insecure, and tough when really I was hurting. This is an extremely important time in the world right now and we owe it to the women in our lives to to step up and play a new role. A role that for many of us can be uncomfortable because it will require us owning up to our mistakes. A role that doesn’t have a script or a rulebook and where we know that at some point we are 100% going to say the wrong thing. But the beauty is that the only thing this role truly requires is a set of ears to listen, a heart to feel- and something many of us men of us have in spades- vigilance. This is the most important role we’ve ever played and there has never been a more critical time to step up and into our potential. So together let’s lift each other up and strive to not just be GOOD MEN… but GOOD HUMANS. I am. You are. WE are. #ManEnough
Baldoni stated the man attempted to use his power to make him feel low as if he had no choice but to perform a sexual act to get a role in a film.
Justin said he had a hard time understanding the situation at first, as it was incredibly strange, surprising, and offensive. However, he eventually said, “What? No,” and left.
Additionally, Justin said women had harassed him in the industry as well. He said, “I’ve also experienced harassment as a man from women of power.”
The actor explained that several women had grabbed his “a*s.” Justin is just one of a few men who has opened up about abuse in Hollywood. Terry Crews came out with similar claims against the agent, Adam Venit, who allegedly groped the Longest Yard star last year.
