The famous actress got candid about her own career in Hollywood as well as the expectations of the industry. Julia Roberts tackled topics such as ageism, equal pay, as well as her Amazon series during a new interview, reports HollywoodLife.
Homecoming is set to premiere in just a few days, and she made sure to share with her fans that the psychological thriller is ‘a great old-fashioned yarn set in this really modern conundrum of a morality play.’
She went on to reveal that ‘I heard the podcast and, months later, I got a call about getting together with Sam Esmail [from Mr. Robot]. We had a Facetime meeting, and I just fell under the spell of his unique, nerdy genius. He is a total treasure, and I loved every minute that we spent together creatively and socially.’
Despite having a very successful and long career in Hollywood, Roberts still realizes that discrimination based on age is very much a reality in the film industry.
‘I think that’s made-up bulls**t that at a certain age, the bell is going to ring and you are done, go on back home. It is silly, and I do not think anyone buys into that. I do not think I am special. I have always been fortunate that I’ve always found the work I’m looking for. I mean, 30 years is a long time, and I’m grateful and satisfied.’
The actress also talked about equal pay for women.
‘It’s an ongoing thing that we wish was more in the rearview. But every day… today I know the World Surfing League announced they would have equal pay for their female and male surfers. And Manchester United has a female team that started this year. I think there are places where people are making those efforts in the right direction. So if it is a little bit of time, then we have to take it and be happy for it,’ Roberts told the outlet.
