Controversy has surrounded the relationship of Counting On star Joy-Anna Duggar and Austin Forsyth ever since they unexpectedly moved their wedding date from October to May last year. Rumors of premarital sex and a shotgun wedding followed the couple up until Duggar gave birth to their first child, Gideon, exactly nine months after tying the knot. Now the speculation has switched to possible abusive behavior from Forsyth towards Duggar, and dark secrets from their relationship are starting to emerge.
The Hollywood Gossip is reporting that viewers who claim to have first-hand experience with emotional and verbal abuse say that Forsyth’s behavior on the popular reality show and in TLC website video clips is a cause for concern.
And, a former Duggar employee claims that those who know the Forsyth family best would not be surprised if the 24-year-old is sometimes overly-harsh with his wife.
Like Duggar, Forsyth grew up in an extremely strict household, and it’s quite possible that the harsh lessons he learned from his father may have influenced his views on relationships. The insider claims that Forsyth’s dad laid down a bizarre ultimatum when asking permission to court Duggar.
“He couldn’t date Joy-Anna until he flipped five houses,” the insider says. “Austin had to flip and sell five houses before he’d be allowed to date. He went to his dad, and he said, ‘What do I need to do?’ and his dad said, ‘You need to flip five houses before you can court.'”
But even before he gave such a difficult challenge to his son, Forsyth’s dad, Terry, has been a controversial figure in his hometown of Springdale, Arkansas. Even though he is on his second marriage, he is an officer in a church that has a rule that you can’t be an officer if you are divorced. No one has been able to figure that mystery out.
The insider goes on to claim that Duggar must be at Forsyth’s “beck and call,” and that she is going to be nothing more than a “baby factory.” The source also claims that Forsyth is a prime candidate for mental abuse.
But, because of Duggar’s place in the community, if the abuse were to turn physical, Forsyth would pay dearly.
The source says that Duggar and Forsyth often broke the rules while they were courting. They were alone together several times, and the insider even caught them kissing. So, the possibility of premarital sex isn’t that far-fetched.
But, even with all these issues, the couple – who got married last May – will be presiding over a conservative Christian marriage retreat later this month and sharing their testimony with those in attendance.
