Celebrity Insider reported recently that Josh Duhamel, Fergie’s ex, opened up about her rendition of the American national anthem, a performance widely panned by critics and audiences alike. During an appearance on The Dan Patrick Show, the 45-year-old actor spoke about how he reached out to Fergie following her disastrous performance.
Admittedly, and in Fergie’s defense, it wasn’t her singing or performing skills that came under fire, it was the bluesy rendition of the song.
Love it or hate it, one has to give the Black Eyed Peas alum credit for trying something different. Duhamel said on the show that he “was surprised” to hear her sing the song like that.
Duhamel has heard Fergie sing it many different times, at the Daytona 500, during the Patriots game, at the beginning of a Miami Dolphins game, and so, and so forth.
However, her blues-inspired version of the song came under fire by nearly everyone regardless. Josh said he “felt bad” for Fergie because there is an “army of trolls” waiting at the gates at every moment to bash people who are successful and brave at what they do.
Following the performance, Josh brought her flowers to cheer her up, because he didn’t “know what else to do.” Josh said to her that he “has her back” through thick and thin.
Despite the criticism, Fergie is still on top, and her newest album is great, Josh said.
As it was previously reported, during an appearance on the Ellen DeGeneres show, Josh said he admitted it “wasn’t her best work.” Either way, she’s “resilient,” and will continue to shine. Fergie and Josh were together for a long time, before splitting up due to “irreconcilable differences.”
