We’re still a year away before the final season of Game of Thrones premieres on HBO, yet fans are still wondering who will sit on the Iron Throne once the war with the Night King is over. Although Jon Snow (Kit Harington) has been a frontrunner to rule Westeros after the Season 8 finale, a new clue might indicate Jon will meet a grisly end before it’s all over.
Jon has had quite the run through the first 7 seasons of Game of Thrones. Last season, we finally learned that Jon’s father was really Rhaegar Targaryen, which gives him a legitimate claim to the throne.
But a few fans have examined past seasons and believe that Samwell Tarley (John Bradley) teased Jon’s true fate in a previous season — and it could lead to Jon’s death at the hands of Euron Greyjoy (Pilou Asbaek) in Season 8.

According to Express, the clue appeared last season while Sam was eavesdropping on a Maester talking about an old prophecy about Aegon the Conqueror. In the scene, the Maester mentions Lodos the prophet, who vowed that the Drowned God would eventually come out of the sea and take out Aegon the Conqueror.
This corresponds to what Euron tried to do in the latest book in summoning an ancient being. Given how Jon has direct ties to the Targaryen family, many fans suspect the prophecy is referring to him and Euron.
Euron last appeared in Season 7 when Jon and Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) showed Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey) the wight they had captured beyond The Wall. While the two tried to negotiate a peace with Cersei, Euron walked away in mock disgust at the idea of fighting an undead army.

But he was really acting on behalf of Cersei, who planned on betraying Jon and Daenerys the entire time. All we know is that Euron sailed away to go on a mission for Cersei, but the exact details of his task remain unknown.
It is entirely possible that Euron will attempt to raise the Drowned God in Season 8. If that happens, he could fulfill the prophecy and end up killing Jon Snow. We can only hope that doesn’t happen, but no characters are truly safe when it comes to Game of Thrones.
HBO has not announced an official premiere date for the final season of Game of Thrones. The series is not expected to return until 2019,
