When he put on his iconic Captain Jack Sparrow costume and posed at Disneyland’s Pirates of the Caribbean ride, Johnny Depp did not get the response he expected. Now, the actor is promoting his Murder on the Orient Express film, and he stopped by The Graham Norton Show with his co-stars.
Depp opened up about going to the happiest place on Earth as Jack Sparrow, admitting that while it was one of his dreams, the reality of it did not live up to his expectations.
‘I was excited to stand stock still and then shout out ‘Oi, what you lookin’ at?’ I got no reaction whatsoever – nothing! I then had to start describing the people I was shouting at so they knew I was real. It was exhausting and such a bad idea!’ the actor revealed.
Depp went on to also talk about some of his other iconic characters such as Willy Wonka and Edward Scissorhands.
About the first one, the A-lister revealed that it was actually inspired by two different personalities in society.
‘In my head, Willy Wonka was a combination of a rather creepy children’s show host and a very stoned George W Bush,’ the star explained his character conception.
As for Edward Scissorhands, Depp thought it was not the best role for him at first.
However, after reading the script, the storyline ‘destroyed’ him, and so he just had to say yes!
And good thing he did because regardless of the fact that Johnny Depp went on to play many iconic and unique characters, Edward Scissorhands is still one of the most well-acclaimed roles of his.
Besides, who knows if his career would’ve even gone on to be so successful without that role getting him the recognition he deserves.
