John Mayer knows not to take himself and his dating history very seriously. That being said, the singer and songwriter made fun of this during Andy Cohen’s 50th birthday special on Watch What Happens Live that he co-hosted.
‘You have a lot of friends who without you would want nothing to do with me, and I find that exciting. You know what I mean? You are friends with Jennifer Lawrence who just does not want anything to do with me. Look at me, I do not have the world’s greatest track record when it comes to celebrity relationships,’ the man told his close friend.
Mayer went on to say that he likes to watch Andy’s other pals ‘humor him’ but also ‘keep a fair distance.’
‘Because if you’re someone who cares about your image and you take this job because it looks right, you do not take that job. Dating John Mayer at this point’s conceptually just sort of a no-no. So, it is really fun to get to hang out with your friends, A-list star friends, who otherwise would be highly uncomfortable sitting around me.’
But Cohen told him that ‘I want them to see you in the new light that I see you.’ How sweet!
‘Thank you, slowly, but surely I am setting myself up for another disastrous celebrity relationship,’ Mayer jokingly responded.
That being said, it’s well known that John Mayer has been linked to many A-list names, including Taylor Swift, Jessica Simpson, and Katy Perry.
He has even used the bad relationships as inspiration for several songs.
For instance, he has admitted that Still Feel Like Your Man is about Katy Perry.
‘Who else would I be thinking about? And by the way, it is a testament to the fact that I’ve not dated a lot of people in the last five or six years. That was my only relationship. So it is like, give me this, people,’ he told the New York Times.
