John Legend claims his pal Kanye West is not joking around about his plans to run for president in 2020. While the singer was on The Dan Wootton Interview podcast, he shared with the audience that the rapper is actually seriously considering his candidacy for the highest office.
As you remember, Kanye has mentioned his plans more than just once but few took him seriously.
An important question is – would he run as a Republican or Democrat?
‘If I had to guess I think he would run as an independent but he has never told me what party he’d run from, but he has publicly said multiple times that he is interested in running for president. I think that is a part of why he likes Trump. I think he sees some aspects of himself in the president and sees that Trump winning makes it feel like he can do it too,’ Legend said.
He then went on to address a text conversation the two friends had on the topic of politics a few months back that Kanye shared on social media.
He recalled that ‘I was stunned when he posted our texts. But then, the other side of me was like I am glad I said what I said, and I am glad people know what I said to him because I think many were worried that Kanye was saying the things he was saying and there were not people advising him differently. A part of me was happy people saw I was telling him the truth and telling him how I felt, and I was proud of everything I said to him.’
A few weeks later, Legend says they had that same conversation face to face.
He stressed that ‘we don’t agree on everything, obviously. But I told him how I felt.’
The main problem is that Kanye supports Trump while Legend is a huge opposer of many of his policies, especially those involving the black community.
