Asia Argento, one of the most prominent voices in the #MeToo movement, has just faced a #MeToo moment of her own. The star was accused of sexual assault by Jimmy Bennett, who is now 22-years-old.
Following the catastrophic allegations against Argento, Jimmy has delivered a public statement for the first time since the accusations came to fruition in the mainstream media.
According to the young man, he said he was initially too “ashamed and afraid” to come out about it. The star, who was 17-years-old at the time, said he chose not to speak out about it because it was better to keep it private.
However, once she came out and described herself as a victim, he said his “trauma resurfaced” and he chose not to say anything previously because he didn’t want to be “part of the public narrative.”
On Tuesday, Argento said Anthony Bourdain had paid off Bennett due to his horrible “economic problems.” However, the following day, TMZ published text messages written by Argento which contradicted her previous statement.
ACTRESS DENIAL: Asia Argento is denying sex assault allegations involving a 17-year-old actor in 2013 — and revealed it was her late boyfriend, celebrity chef and television host Anthony Bourdain, who paid the nearly $400,000 settlement to end any “further intrusions” in their lives. @davidmuirabc reports #theindex #hollywood #actress #sex #assault #teen #allegations #metoo #anthonybourdain #asiaargento #worldnewstonight
Bennett said he had tried to get justice in his own way because he was not “ready to deal with the ramifications of my story becoming public.” He said he believed there was still a significant stigma to being in such a situation as a teenage boy.
As it was previously reported, the New York Times published the accusation on Sunday that Asia had sex with him when he was a minor in California.
The Times obtained the original legal documents from Bennett’s attorney which showed his intent to sue. The notice was sent around the same time that Asia came out about Mr. Harvey Weinstein, in a report that was published in The New Yorker in October 2017.
Additionally, many on social media are now linking the death of Anthony Bourdain to Asia Argento’s recent scandal. As you may know, Asia was photographed with other men while in Europe, just a few days before Bourdain tragically took his own life.
