The Duggar family —stars of TLC’s Counting On — is famous for their uber-conservative rules like no kissing (or physical intimacy) before marriage, modest clothing for the Duggar women, and no consumption of modern music, TV, or movies. Those rules line up with their interpretation of the Bible — which the family seemingly follows to the letter . But there appears to be one Bible verse that the Counting On stars have a rather “liberal” interpretation of.
Leviticus 19:28 reads, “Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print or tattoo any marks upon you: I am the Lord.”
Many interpret this to mean that Christians should never get piercings or tattoos, but according to Jill Duggar, piercings are not against her religion.
The former Counting On star showed off her nose piercing recently in a PDA filled pic with her husband Derick Dillard, and when a fan asked her about nose piercings being against her religion, Duggar nonchalantly responded, “No.”
Duggar first showed off her nose piercing last November, and fans were shocked, considering how conservative the family is. But Jill isn’t the only member of the family with piercings. New mom Jinger Duggar often shows off statement earrings on her pierced ears. And under Jessa Duggar’s big hair, she is often hiding earrings on her pierced ears.
Oldest sister Jana also has pierced ears, and the little ones also follow the family trend. Jordyn Duggar got her ears pierced for her sixth birthday, and Josh and Anna’s 8-year-old daughter Mackynzie also rocks shining diamond studs.
“Josh was very excited, while Anna was a little uneasy. They both agreed that it would be best to have the procedure done while she is too little to remember,” the family wrote on their blog back in July.
As Romper points out, the rules seem to be a bit different when it comes to tattoos. Neither Jim Bob, Michelle, or any of the 19 kids have any permanent ink, but Jill has explored body art with henna.
However, Jinger’s husband Jeremy Vuolo went through a “bad boy streak” when was younger, and he has a tattoo on the inside of his upper arm. Well, at least he did when they first started courting. In recent pics, you can’t see it, so it is possible he got it removed.
Cousin Amy, who appeared regularly on the family’s first show 19 Kids & Counting, got a matching tattoo with her husband, Dillon King. They each got a tat on their forearm that reads, “Rest in the storm.” Amy is religious, but she isn’t nearly as conservative as her famous family.
New episodes of Counting On — without Jill Duggar — air Monday nights on TLC.
