The country singer who has more than 2 million Instagram followers made the dreadful mistake of uploading and sharing a picture with a caption “Tan bunny.”
The Internet went wild and many of Jessie’s followers criticized her parenting skills and accused her of intentionally harming her child.
The backlash has intensified and mainstream news outlets picked up the story. Now, people are arguing about whether it is safe or child endangerment to let a child get a suntan.

Jessie James Decker is the mom to Vivienne Rose and son Eric Decker II and found herself needing to defend the fact that her child got suntanned while at the beach.
Not only has the controversy started many social discussions, it has resulted in a debate as to whether or not is safe for children to tan.
Jessie James Decker explained that she used sunscreen on her daughter, but due to their Italian ethnicity, her daughter tanned anyway.
The discussion now is whether it is safe for children to get a suntan even if it comes while wearing a 40 proof or above suntan.
There are many conflicting theories regarding the safety of suntanning for children. And while the most important step in preventing skin cancer and other damage from the sun is to block UVA and UVB rays, sunscreen does not prevent tanning in all people.
Many who are concerned that the sun is too dangerous for children often choose to use light clothing as additional protection. Those who have questions regarding the best way to prevent skin damage in their children should speak to their healthcare professional or their child’s pediatrician.
