Jerry Seinfeld is getting bashed after making a joke and using “Black’s Life Matters” in it. However, Mr. Seinfeld is not like other Hollywood celebrities, he is not apologizing, he is not backing down, and he is not deleting the tweet. On Friday, the star of the classic 1990s sitcom “Seinfeld” took to Twitter where he shared a brief post to promote his comedy web series called “Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee.” The show, which airs on digital network Crackle, was created and is hosted by Seinfeld.
It features the funnyman driving around in a vintage car selected for a guest comedian, followed by a sitdown at a café or restaurant for coffee. The tweet was meant to announce the next guest of “Cars Getting Coffee,” Lewis Black.
Mr. Black is a controversial comedian, who recently claimed that Donald Trump, was responsible for the death of celebrities like Debbie Reynolds, Carrie Fisher, and Mary Tyler Moore. Black said on “The Daily Show”: “You want to know why so many celebrities died in 2016? It was to get out of playing the goddamn inauguration.”
To promote Black’s appearance on “Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee,” Seinfeld tweeted: “New! Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee. Lewis Black. Black’s life matters. @Acura!”
Jerry Seinfeld thought he was clever to use Black’s life matters, which is, of course, a play on Black Lives Matter or #BlackLivesMatter. BLM is a movement that began in 2013 with African-American activists. It holds marches and press conferences to fight against violence and systemic racism toward black people. Members of BLM are of difference race and religion; they also fight against racial profiling and police brutality.
The tweet went viral, and the comedian was bashed for it. One person said: “This is worse than the finale of ‘Seinfeld’ which I still don’t like. Who’s writing your tweets now? The Breitbart humor section staff?” Another tweeted: “What the f— Jerry.” A third person added: “Now I see why Larry David wrote all the jokes.”
Seinfeld came back to Twitter, ignored the harsh comments, and wrote another post about his show. Seinfeld recently did an interview where he said he does fewer stand-ups because he is fed up with the PC police.
He said: “They just want to use these words: ‘That’s racist;’ ‘That’s sexist;’ ‘That’s prejudice. They don’t know what the hell they’re talking about.”
Do you think Seinfeld should apologize for his tweet?
