Jennifer Lawrence and her ex-boyfriend, Darren Aronofsky, were spotted hanging out together in New York City on the 20th of December. However, a source close to the actress and director told Us Weekly that the pair is merely friends and aren’t looking to start dating again.
As you may already know, the Hunger Games star and the director broke up back in October of this year. The 27-year-old and 48-year-old stopped hanging out possibly due to the poor reception of Darren’s new movie, mother!
In an interview with Adam Sandler for Variety’s Actors on Actors series, Jennifer said she usually would promote the movie and then the film is “out of (her) hands.”
However, when dating the director, you’re regularly exposed to people’s reception of the film, because it’s practically your baby. Lawrence said obsessing over the movie gets tiring and is borderline unhealthy.
Furthermore, Lawrence explained that exposure to adverse reviews made her extra protective of Darren.
However, she said it wasn’t healthy to become defensive or obsess over the movie and people’s reception of it. It didn’t help that the critics weren’t particularly fond of it either. It’s possible for it to age well though, like many cult films.
Eventually, a person just has to let it go. Lawrence said the truth of the matter is that some people are going to despise it while others will love it.
That’s the nature of the game; you can’t please everyone, and there’s no sense in trying either. And while reports indicate that the pair broke up because of the movie, many have speculated that the relationship was merely tabloid conjecture to inadvertently promote it. The constant exposure of Darren and Lawrence’s romance helped market the film without even explicitly mentioning it.
