Insecure creator and star Issa Rae has had quite the emergence into stardom in the last couple of years. The 33-year-old actress has taken her rise to fame and everything that comes with it in stride. In the July issue of Cosmopolitan magazine, she positively glows and looks utterly radiant.
Rae talks about confidence in the interview by saying that confidence can come from so many different avenues and places. She says that she’s most confident in her work, her goals, and her dreams because she believes in them wholeheartedly.
She knows that what she produces is good so she has every bit of confidence that it will do well and find it’s audience.
This is definitely the case with her hit show Insecure, which enters into its third season this summer. The show has become an absolute hit amongst viewers and critics alike.
Rae even garnered two Golden Globe nominations for her acting role in the show.
While she is incredibly honored by the recognition that she has gotten for her role, the way she crafts storylines, casts those underrepresented and tells the truth through her storylines is where her focus tends to go.
The beauty is open and upfront about prioritizing dark-skinned women in her narratives and making sure that they are depicted as desirable.
.@Cosmopolitan: Her show may be called @insecurehbo, but writer, actress and all-around badass @IssaRae is anything but. Here she shines in summer's best beauty looks. https://t.co/yPn9tLSUJz pic.twitter.com/VVpjF3BE7F

Due to the lack of dark-skin representation, this is something that she’s felt strongly about and stayed true to in the overall focus of her characters and their relationships.
When it comes to her personal fashion choices, overall style, and presence, Rae is coming to terms that everyone has an opinion but ultimately, those don’t matter.
Rae says that she will always “look how I want to look.” She can’t be concerned with what other people have to say in terms of how she looks.
She’s dealt with criticism regarding her appearance for quite some time and at this point, it doesn’t matter. It’s all about how she feels and what’s important to her.
