Season 1 of Netflix’s The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina featured a puzzling crossover with Riverdale. Although the shows exist in the same universe, they are set in completely different times. Riverdale takes place in present day while fans assume Sabrina is in the 1960s. So how did a character from Riverdale find himself transported back in time?
The crossover went down seven episodes into the first season of Sabrina. Fans may have noticed that the guy delivering pizza looked a lot like Ben Button (Moses Thiessen) from Riverdale.

The executive producer of both shows, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, confirmed that the two characters are the same person. Aguirre-Sacasa also teased that time runs different in the Riverdale universe and Ben might play a bigger role in connecting the shows.
“[Ben] suggests a very deep, deep mythology where time and space bends,” Aguirre-Sacasa shared. “I love that kid.”
According to W Magazine, Ben made several appearances on Riverdale before being killed off in Season 3. He first showed up in Season 1 as an employee at the Twilight Drive-In.
In Season 2, Ben kissed Miss Grundy right before the Black Hood murdered her. In his last appearance, Ben played Dungeons and Dragons at the local movie theater before jumping out of a hospital window. We presume Ben died in the fall, though it is possible that he survived.
We do not yet know how Ben popped up in Sabrina, half a century before the events in Riverdale.

One explanation is that there are more than one Ben Buttons. There is also a chance that he is simply playing his dad, or that the two shows actually take place in the same time.
Whatever the reasons, it is clear that Aguirre-Sacasa plans to link the shows more in the future, which should provide a little more insight into what is really going on.
The first season of The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is now available to stream on Netflix. Riverdale airs Wednesdays on the CW.
