The royal wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will take place this Saturday in front of millions, and while the eyes of the world will mostly be on the happy couple, fans want to know what Prince William, Kate Middleton, and their children will be doing on the big day.
As The Daily Express reports, the wedding will take place at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle and the LA-born Suits actress will officially join the royal family, but not all of her future in-laws will be part of the wedding party. Although some suggested that Markle would enlist Kate Middleton as a bridesmaid, experts say that will not be the case.
Despite Middleton and Markle’s friendship, the Duchess of Cambridge will not be a bridesmaid or matron of honor because the role would be “unbecoming” for the future Queen, explains British etiquette expert William Hanson.
This is the same royal protocol that prevented Middleton from being the matron of honor at her sister Pippa’s wedding to James Matthews last year.
“It’s unbecoming for a member of the royal family to walk behind a commoner,” says Hanson.
As for Prince William, Kensington Palace has confirmed that he will be his brother’s best man. Harry filled that role for William when he married Kate back in April 2011. Initially, there was some doubt about William’s role in Harry’s wedding because the future King said back in January that Harry hadn’t asked him yet, and it could be a sensitive subject.
Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams says that the expectation for Prince George and Princess Charlotte is that they will be part of the bridal party as a page boy and flower girl because there is a long tradition where royal children play key roles at weddings.
But, if you expect to see Prince Louis, you will be disappointed. He will not be at the royal wedding because, as Fitzwilliams explains, absolutely nothing can detract from the happy couple, and Louis’ presence would do that.
With just days to go before William takes the role of best man, he stepped out to support victims of last year’s devastating Grenfell Tower fire. This week, the royal dad joined the crew of the BBC One show DIY SOS, which takes on major building projects for people and communities in need.
They are currently building a new community center and replacing a boxing club that the fire destroyed last June at the 24-story Grenfell Tower block of public housing in west London.
Prince William visited the construction site and joined volunteers who have given their time and expertise to the ambitious project. He also took the time to meet with local residents affected by the fire.
