Now that we know Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are officially expecting their first child, the speculation about every detail of their birth plan is underway. The baby announcement came just hours after the couple arrived in Australia for a 16-day Royal tour, and fans have a lot of questions, but not many answers.
We know that Markle is due in the spring, but Royal watchers are curious about where the Duchess of Sussex will give birth. Historically, Royal births took place at the palace. But, Princess Diana changed things when she decided to give birth to Prince William and Prince Harry at the Lindo Wing of London’s St. Mary’s Hospital. Kate Middleton has continued Diana’s precedent and given birth to all three of her children at the hospital’s private wing.

The births outside of the palace have led to photographers waiting outside of the Lindo Wing to get the first pics of new Royal babies when the parents walk down the steps outside of the hospital. It’s only about a ten-minute drive from Kensington Palace, but there are plenty of reasons that modern royal parents have made the choice to deliver at the hospital.
According to Romper, the private maternity wing is both discrete and incredibly luxurious. It is the hospital equivalent of a five-star hotel, making it a dream location to give birth if you can afford it. A one-night birth package in a Lindo Wing suite will cost you about $8,200 for a private room with an ensuite. New parents will have access to a fully-stocked bathroom that features a nice selection of cosmetics and toiletries, chef-prepared meals that include wine or champagne, afternoon tea service, satellite TV and Wi-Fi, and diapers and formula for the baby.
But, the Lindo Wing offers more than fancy amenities. Katherine Filkins, a London mom who chose the Lindo Wing in 2017 for the birth of her second child, says that the hospital also gives top medical care and takes care of spouses, as well as new moms. Filkins says her husband had a bed to sleep in during their stay, as well as a selection of meals to choose from.
There is no doubt that Harry and Meghan’s birth experience will be compared to William and Kate’s. Chances are, the media and fans will expect the former Suits actress to emerge from the hospital looking just as glamorous as she would at any major Royal event, just hours after giving birth.
But, one of the differences between Harry and Meghan compared to William and Kate will be the baby’s royal titles. Since Prince William is the first-born and future King, his children receive titles of prince and princess. However, since Prince Harry is the second-born, he and Meghan Markle’s children will get the title of Lord or Lady Mountbatten-Windsor.
