Less than a month after she gave birth to her third child, Kate Middleton showed off her post-pregnancy body at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s royal wedding, and fans took notice of her significantly trimmed down figure. So, how did she lose her baby weight so quickly?
OK! Magazine is reporting Middleton shed the pounds with a combination of simple workouts and a no-starve diet. The Duchess is able to fit low-intensity workouts into her busy schedule that includes running after 4-year-old Prince George and 3-year-old Princess Charlotte and taking care of newborn Prince Louis.
“She’s always been sporty and likes to exercise because it makes her feel good and keeps her energy levels up,” explains an insider.
Middleton also worked with a personal trainer after each pregnancy to make sure she gets back into shape in a healthy, effective way. But, weight loss is not all about exercise. Diet is also a big part of it, and for Middleton, that means focusing on moderation and eating small meals several times a day.
The insider says the Duchess of Cambridge won’t touch processed food, but she does occasionally treat herself with sweets like dark chocolate, her favorite indulgence. Balance is important to Middleton, and she makes sure that her routine is easy to maintain because taking care of three kids while starving and exhausted isn’t an option.
It is also important to Kate and Prince William to make healthy, home-cooked meals together as a family, and they don’t require the services of a chef. Instead, Middleton does the cooking, and that allows her to be in control of what she eats. And, the mom-of-three usually opts for healthy vegetable-packed dishes.
It also helps that Middleton is an “exercise junkie,” with a workout regime that includes CrossFit – high-intensity resistance training. The Duchess also enjoys running, which can make weight fall off quickly.
Fitness and wellness expert Louise Parker – who worked with Middleton after she gave birth to George in 2013 – says the key is dedication to a healthy lifestyle. She also says exercise is important, but there is no need for long, high-intensity workouts, especially after having a baby.
Parker says that new moms should focus on correcting posture after pregnancy, so when working out, you should focus on opening up your chest while strengthening your upper back and core. Parker advocates cardio-sculpting, which she says is an effective way to tone and burn fat at the same time.
When it comes to the scale, Parker says that people obsess about numbers, but she advises to make sure you do the best you can – even if it is just a nice walk – because everything has an accumulative effect.
Kate Middleton is currently enjoying her maternity leave before getting back to her royal duties.
