Cameron Diaz recently went through a situation that could have had an unfortunate ending. But because of the kind and gracious heart of a homeless woman, it didn’t turn out badly. The homeless woman found a wallet Thursday night in Beverly Hills when Diaz dropped it on the street upon leaving without noticing, right in front of expensive restaurant Matsuhisa.
The woman scooped up the wallet and attempted to tell the staff that Diaz had dropped it. The restaurant staff was completely unhelpful, told the woman that Diaz had left and that there wasn’t anything they could do.
What happened next is remarkable, as the woman didn’t just make off with the wallet but stuck around. The police were called, likely by the staff who realized the woman was still in front of the restaurant.
Once the cops arrived, the homeless woman explained the situation and handed over Diaz’s wallet completely intact.
There’s no word if Diaz will personally reach out to the woman to thank her or even offer her a reward for her honesty but it’s nice to see.
It also really highlights the intentions of those involved because the restaurant seemed so unwilling to help, despite having the means to, while the homeless woman doesn’t have a place to live but still made it such a point to ensure she returned the property of a celebrity who is wealthy.
There is a specific type of juxtaposition here and symmetry that should be noted.
Diaz was one of the most recognizable actresses in the early 2000’s but found herself unwittingly in an acting sabbatical after the scheduling and the constant travel became too much for her.
She hasn’t been seen in a film for three years. She also recently married Good Charlotte singer Benji Madden. When asked what made her decide to get married when she was 41, instead of much younger, she had a sweet response:
“I think it’s a matter of I just hadn’t met my husband yet, you know? I had boyfriends before. And there’s a really, really distinct difference between husbands and boyfriends. We women are objectified so much. Somehow my husband has just been able to kind of show me what it’s like not to have that be a part of a relationship and being an equal.”
