We have learned that even though Hoda Kotb has taken over the vacant Today spot left by the disgraced Matt Lauer following his scandal and firing, the woman is making significantly less money than he used to! Read to find out what Kotb is pocketing from her new gig.
As fans may already be aware, it was announced on Tuesday that Hoda Kotb would officially replace Lauer, co-hosting alongside Savannah Guthrie.
Now reports have revealed that Hoda is making no more than $7 million per year, a huge difference from Lauer’s $25 million!
According to an insider, the man’s salary was a reflection of his long time as a co-host on the show, which was 25 years before his firing.
Meanwhile, Hoda Kotb has been a co-host of the fourth hour alongside Kathie Lee Gifford ever since 2008.
‘It is a symptom of the correct economic decision to downsize the role and not throw millions of dollars at it,’ news analyst Andrew Tyndall stated.
That being said, yet another insider on the set told us that Hoda is not upset about her significantly lower salary and that she is well aware she can always ask for a raise next time she gets to negotiate her contract.
‘She’s landed the big job she has always dreamed of, and definitely deserves… But the figures underline the massive wage disparity at NBC News,’ our source explained.
Kotb herself has addressed the salary difference, admitting she is not even close to making the same amount as the former Today co-star.
‘I believe the whole money thing for me, I have always been sort of – I know it sounds ridiculous that I am going to say this, but I’ve really done jobs I liked for the job I liked because I’ve never wanted to be happy every other Friday on payday. Like, I did not want that to be the happy day. I wanted to feel good throughout. So no, I am not making Matt Lauer money. Not even close.’
