It seems like Hillary Clinton is not very fond of the Today host. In the former presidential candidate’s memoir What Happened, she slammed Matt Lauer for his questioning at the ‘Commander in Chief Forum’ before the election one year ago.
Clinton penned that she thought it was predictable but also disappointing how Lauer, instead of staying on topic, decided to focus on Clinton’s scandal.
The event was meant to show the candidates’ views on foreign policy, but Lauer brought into discussion her email scandal instead and did not change the topic of debate for the entire 30-minute long interview.
‘Now I was ticked off. NBC knew exactly what it was doing here. The network was treating this like an episode of The Apprentice, in which Trump stars and ratings soar. Lauer had turned what should have been a serious discussion into a pointless ambush. What a waste of time,’ Hillary wrote in her memoir about the incident.
The 69-year-old admitted that she didn’t think the most peaceful thoughts during the questioning, but denied the rumors that she ran off the stage in anger afterward.
She explained that ‘shaking some sense’ into him was definitely on her mind at the time.
In addition, when it was Donald Trump’s turn to take the stage, she was shocked at how easy Lauer went on him with the questions.
The entire exchange between the Republican candidate and the Today host almost made her ‘physically sick!’
Of course, following the interviews, Lauer was slammed by the viewers who seemed to agree his style was not appropriate.
According to sources, his obvious bias and unprofessionalism almost lost his job at NBC.
