If you though the election process was finally over and you were happy to get it over with regardless whether you supported Donald Trump or not, you will be surprised to find out that the public votes are still being counted and Hillary Clinton in the lead by almost 2 million people.
The latest numbers were made public on Friday afternoon by the nonpartisan Cook Political Report and they show that Clinton has won the popular vote with a 1.67 million-vote lead over Donald Trump.
Many more votes are still not in and it is speculated that they are mostly Clinton’s. The Democratic candidate has exactly 63,541,056 as of Saturday, while the president elect, Donald Trump has 61,864,015, a difference of about 1.4 percent.
Furthermore, the difference in votes is expected to get even larger as California has four million uncounted votes remaining and we know that she won the electoral vote there. Washington is another such state that supported Hillary votes are still being counted there. It looks like Clinton is going to win the popular vote by a large margin.
Obviously, that would change nothing, considering Donald Trump has won the 270 Electoral College votes required to be president. But at least it shows what the people really think about the new president and how they voted accordingly. Maybe it is also the start of a reform through which the Electoral College would be eliminated. It is time for the United States to prove that they really are a nation ‘of the people, by the people, for the people’, don’t you think?
Anyway, until that will come to completion, we can only conclude that with such a whooping victory in the popular vote for Clinton, Trump does not have anywhere near a mandate to implement his policies.
It looks like Hillary Clinton’s chance to be involved in the making and bettering of America is still there as long as the people support her.
