Burt Reynolds is known for a long and lucrative movie career, including great films like The Longest Yard and its remake featuring Adam Sandler, Smokey And The Bandit, and Boogie Nights among others. However, he’s gotten to be an old man, and perhaps that was the reason for his social-faux-pas on the Today Show on the 15th of March.
The 82-year-old made an appearance on the Today show along with the host, Hoda Kotb, to talk about his long and illustrious career, as well as what it’s like to get old in the Hollywood scene.
However, Reynold’s shocked everyone, especially Kotb, when he commented on her lips. The Boogie Nights alum said he was “so proud of you for not having your lips larger,” before going on to kiss her hand. As weird as it was, Burt and Hoda continued on anyway.
At the beginning of their talk, Kotb pushed Burt to reflect on old photographs of himself, including one where he held a football. Reynolds said if he could “do that,” he wouldn’t even want to be an actor.
In a moment of honesty, the actor spoke about his father’s displeasure with his aspirations as an actor. Burt said his dad wasn’t delighted with it and didn’t congratulate him on his success either when Burt went on to become a massive star.
One time, Burt even asked him directly what he thought of his latest “picture,” and his father said, “what picture?” Despite their tough times together, Reynolds admitted he loved his father like no other.
Burt’s life and career undoubtedly deserve recognition, or perhaps even an acknowledgment and nod through a biopic.
And according to Reynolds, there is no better actor to portray him in a film than George Clooney, despite Clooney not being as “good looking” as him, the Deliverance star joked. Burt is currently promoting his upcoming movie, The Last Movie Star, which deals with an actor reflecting on the last years of his life.
