According to reports, the primary screenwriter of the upcoming film, “Solo: A Star Wars Story,” Jonathan Kasdan, revealed that Lando Calrissian will be a “pansexual” character. And Donald Glover, the creator of the new viral song, “This Is America,” will portray the classic Star Wars personality.
Billy Dee Williams was the actor to portray Lando in the original Star Wars films, and according to Glover, there was a “fluidity” regarding his sexuality.
GLAAD, the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, said a “pansexual” is someone who is attracted to someone regardless of their gender identity.
Donald, or Childish Gambino, as some of his fans might know him, said he would’ve loved to play a character with a more ambiguous sexuality, but his new character is perfect too.
Jonathan Kasdan said Lando “doesn’t make any hard and fast rules,” and he thinks the idea is fun and doesn’t know “where it will go.” Reportedly, Lando will have a “flirty relationship” with one of his droids, L3-37.
Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who voices the droid, said what makes the relationship between the robot and Lando is the fact that they can be rude and short to each other, but it’s all out of love.
It’s “what reveals their love for each other and trust for each other,” Pheobe explained. Phoebe went on to say that both characters are independent spirits, who do, say, and feel what they want.
And there is “something really romantic about that,” she remarked. As you may know, the issue of gender identity has become a pertinent topic in popular culture, notably, in Hollywood. Additionally, following the #MeToo movement, more and more actresses have demanded further representation in the executive offices of Hollywood.
