Harvey Weinstein appeared in court on June 5, 2018, where he officially pleaded not guilty to sexual criminal charges including rape during his arraignment. More than 80 women have come forward to accuse the disgraced movie producer of various forms of sexual assault. Though there have been multiple allegations against Weinstein, he was indicted by a grand jury for assaults against two women: Lucia Evans and an unnamed woman.
Weinstein states that every allegation against him is a lie and any sexual contact he had with the women was consensual. Benjamin Brafman vowed to defend his client against the charges and vowed to fight for his client in the courtroom.
Benjamin Brafman stated the following.
“Mr. Weinstein has denied these crimes. He has maintained that he has never engaged in nonconsensual sex with anyone. In his view, he has been falsely accused of rape and I intend to help him win this case fair and square on the merits or the lack of merits.”

Harvey Weinstein has been charged with two counts of rape and one count of first-degree sexual misconduct. Though he was arrested, Weinstein’s bail was set at $1 million and he surrendered his passport and is wearing a GPS ankle monitor.
Weinstein was charged on May 30, 2018.
Disney, Miramax and Weinstein’s company has been sued by three of Weinstein’s accusers. One of the women states that approximately one year ago, she approached Benjamin Brafman in hopes he would represent her. She allegedly turned over information and evidence to him, unaware that he was actually representing Harvey Weinstein.
The courtroom was flooded with people who stood outside to watch Weinstein arrive in court. According to The Guardian, Gloria Allred was present and watched from the public seating.
Many feel that the Weinstein trial will be one of the most defining legal cases in American history. At this point, it is unclear how many of Weinstein’s accusers Gloria Allred represents or in talks with.
Weinstein’s second court date is September 20, 2018. It is believed that he will attend each court hearing as the case moves forward.
