Tina Turner celebrated her 78th birthday on November 26, 2017. Born Anna Marie Bullock, but known to the world as Tina Turner, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee has amassed a number of awards over her illustrious career. Twitter celebrated her birthday with a display of balloons that flood screens when you visit her official site. Tina is also being memorialized with the upcoming 2018 production Tina the Musical. The musical premieres in March 2018 and they celebrated Tina Turner’s birthday with a special Happy Birthday tweet. In addition to her singing career, Tina Turner is also an actress and composer who has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and one on the St. Louis Walk of Fame.
Tina became well known for her relationship with first husband Ike Turner. She performed with him for the first time in 1958 under the name Little Ann. In 1960, listening audiences heard many of her soon-to-be classics and iconic songs as they performed as Ike & Tina Turner Revue. Some of these songs included Proud Mary, Nutbush City Limits, and River Deep — Mountain High.
By 1976 the couple would split and Tina Turner would reveal she suffered horrific domestic violence and abuse while married to Ike Turner.

In 1986, Tina Turner wrote the autobiography I, Tina. The book detailed the abuse she endured and became a best seller. Many people were stunned and shocked to discover just how abusive Tina Turner’s relationship with Ike had been. She appeared on many talk shows and spoke about domestic violence, leaving an abusive situation, and how she went from the Baptist faith to Buddhism in order to find peace.
Turner’s book I, Tina was developed into the Oscar-nominated movie What’s Love Got To Do With It starring Angela Bassett and Laurence Fishburne.
Tina Turner moved to Switzerland in 1994 while simultaneously owning property in Los Angeles, London, Cologne, and the French Riviera. In 2013, Tina Turner applied for Swiss citizenship and underwent a process ensuring she understood Swiss history. After taking the mandatory test and passing, she became a Swiss citizen and relinquished her U.S. citizenship.
